The Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC)
aims at improving the research ecosystem of India’s Higher Educational
Institutions by facilitating academic and research collaborations between Indian
Institutions and the best institutions in the world from 28 selected nations to jointly
solve problems of national and/or international relevance. The scheme proposes to
enable productive academic cooperation by supporting the following critical
components that can catalyze impact making research. Oral Submucous fibrosis, a major health issue in India, is a chronic insidious
disease associated with betel nut chewing and can result in significant morbidity
including stiffness of the mucosa and reduced mouth opening There is an unmet clinical need to develop anti-fibrotic therapies which are cost-effective as well as acceptable by the regulatory agencies. This conference
sponsored by the SPARC- MHRD aims to open up unexplored avenues related to
developing Pre-clinical animal models of Submucosal fibrosis, epidemiology to
mechanistic insights of OSMF, anti-fibrotic therapies using nutraceutical drugs,
their pharmacological actions based on in-vitro, pre-clinical proof of concept
studies and drug designs. Expert overviews and collaborative discussions from
various stakeholders including academia, biotech and pharmaceutical industries
can yield important insights and aid us in arriving at a consensus for further
development of neutraceutical drugs for this Potentially malignant disorder Oral
