Dr. Jayasankar P. Pillai

Dr. Jayasankar P. Pillai graduated BDS from Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Post Graduate Dental Science, Pondicherry. He is presently working as a faculty in the Dept. of Oral Pathology at Govt. Dental College and Hospital Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India with more than 22 years of experience in teaching and dental research. In 2015, he underwent Fellowship training in Forensic Odontology through the Indian Board of Forensic Odontology (IBFO). He completed two years of full-time Post graduation in Forensic Odontology with Gold Medal from Gujarat Forensic Sciences University (GFSU). He has performed dental age estimation in more than 400 medico-legal cases and performed age estimation and sex determination. He appeared as an expert witness in district courts in Gujarat on several occasions in age estimation cases under the POCSO Act. He is the recipient of two prestigious awards from the Indian Society for Dental Research (ISDR) for his contribution to Dental research. His research publications are published in Forensic Science International Reports, Journal of Forensic Science and Medicine, Journal of Forensic Dental Sciences, Journal of Forensic Radiology and Imaging, and Indian Journal of Dental Research. As a member of the Program Development and Review Committee (PDRC) of Gujarat Institute of Disaster Management (GIDM), he drafted and submitted the Guidelines and SoPs for the “Dignified Management of Dead in the aftermath of Disaster” for the Government of Gujarat through GIDM. He has developed the new dental traits standard called the “GFSU-GDC Dental Anthropology model” and  is currently the Joint Secretary of the Indian Association of Forensic Odontology (IAFO).
